Known for his eccentric work, Joseph Bohmann made a variety of different types of fretted instruments, including mandolins. This instrument has a body of 21 birdseye maple staves and a walnut clasp. The fingerboard and headstock are rosewood. The top has a simple inset pickguard. The broken headstock has Bohmann’s fanciful star shaped tuner grommets. Not only is the headstock broken through, it has a hefty bad steel shank repair screwed to the back of the head, and the top edge is missing. So is the bridge. Also, there’s no case. But, it’s nifty!
