AMERICAN, Piccolo, Five-String Banjo, c.1890 or earlier
This unsigned and unattributed piccolo banjo is so much fun! The neck is sort of like an early Fairbanks style oak neck with a very very distinctive hourglass-shaped peghead. The 6-1/2″ metal clad spun rim has 10 brackets. The fretless fingerboard of dark-brown bakelite or hard rubber is screwed on to the neck and has a scale length of approximately 16″. It needs restoration to be playable, but is plenty interesting just as it is.
