The 13-1/2″ black painted wood (perhaps oak) rim of this minstrel banjo has 20 brackets and is mounted with a skin head. We think the bracket shoes have been replaced and that the paint is not original. There are in places the ghost of another bracket shoe outline with a pointed end. The neck is also painted black with a large rounded heel without cutout. The slightly domed slotted head has two-on-a-plate geared tuners with round bone buttons. The fifth peg is at the 6th fret position – with a geared side mounted tuner. The ebony fingerboard has flush ivory fret markers to the 14th fret. The peghead and fingerboard have long abalone diamond inlays and a 6-point star at the bottom of the board. The reproduction tailpiece is very nicely made. Scale length is 27-1/2″ scale. Gig bag included.
