American, Banjo, Five-string, c.1880

We?d love to know who made this banjo, but we don’t. It has a 10-3/4″ wooden rim, 24″ scale, 18 frets to the body, and 14 brackets. It?s a sweet, simple instrument with a charismatic carved head and dowel. It is setup with a skin head, nylon strings, and a patented Will Gurke tailpiece (probably not original but fun). The neck is laminated from 8 pieces of wood with a laminated (or more likely repaired) heel. The neck is likely walnut neck, and the rim may be ash or chestnut.
