1. MARTIN, 000-18, 1946, An extremely lightweight and responsive war-time style 18, with an ebony strengthening rod in the neck. The Adirondack spruce top is of four pieces and the back and sides are mahogany. In original and overall excellent condition with a good older neck reset, nice frets, minor fingerboard wear, replacement bridge of correct size & style, and three small filled screw-holes at the bottom end from an old tailpiece. 2. MARTIN, 000-28, 1926, A total of 327 12-fret 000-28s were made before the switch to 14-fret models in 1933, and this is one of them. The Adirondack spruce top has herringbone trim and an ebony pyramid bridge with the original small thin maple bridge plate, and is braced for steel strings. The back and sides are Brazilian rosewood. The slotted headstock has 3-in-line tuners with engraved nickel plates, and the fingerboard has bar frets. In original and very good condition overall with a somewhat later Martin OM-pickguard (correct size, material, & style for the period), recent neck reset and setup, and center seam reglued below bridge (looks fine and neat). 3. MARTIN, 000-28, 1946, This 28 with Brazilian rosewood back & sides has a beautifully aged sitka spruce top with herringbone trim, non- scalloped braces. The mahogany neck has an ebony fingerboard with pearl dots (of uniform size), and open gear Waverly tuners with oval nickel buttons. Near excellent condition in appearance and function with a glued 4" hairline back crack, and possibly a replaced maple bridge-plate (itís the correct size and thickness, but appears very fresh- might just be very clean), and some minor play wear. 4. MARTIN, 000-28C, 1964, This Martin nylon string guitar is in really terrific condition. It has a 12-fret neck with slotted-head, and a 12-fret style body with very attractive Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Itís completely original and in excellent plus condition with the original hard case. (Our #32144) $5,500.
5. MARTIN, 000-28ECB, 2001, This is Prototype #1 of three prototypes made for this limited edition guitar. The label is signed by both Eric Clapton and C.F. Martin IV. The top is Sitka spruce and the back and sides are Brazilian rosewood. The top has scalloped braces, grained ivoroid bindings, a pearl rosette, and ebony bridge with fossilized ivory bridge pins. The modified V-shape neck has an ebony fingerboard. In mint, unplayed condition with the original hard case. Measurements: 1-3/4" nut and 24.9" scale. (Our #32017) $10,000.
6. MARTIN, 00-17, 1956, A standard style 17 with mahogany body and top, and no bindings, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard & bridge, original but for a very light overspray, and in overall excellent condition, later hard case (Our #32223) $3,200.
7. MARTIN, 00-18, 1927, This lightweight and responsive guitar is braced fr steel strings with an Adirondack spruce top, and mahogany back and sides. The V-shaped 12-fret neck has a slotted-headstock and ebony fingerboard with original bar frets & original ebony nut. The guitar is in very good condition with the original small maple bridge-plate, and a later Martin replacement rectangular ebony bridge of the correct size. There are no apparent cracks. The neck has been reset (not recently) with a small wedge under the fingerboard. There is some pickwear, hits, scratches & scuffs, and a tiny 2" crack along the lower bass edge of the back. Otherwise no cracks (the lines in the photos are scratches). The 4th & 5th string tuner posts are very slightly bent, not affecting function. Measurements: 24.9" scale, 1-7/8" width at the nut. 8. MARTIN, 00-18, 1943, The cleanest & nicest 00-18 of this period we've seen. Adirondack top with scalloped braces and tortoise-color bindings. Mahogany back and sides. Dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard & bridge, ebony nut, and gunmetal grey war-time Kluson tuners with plastic buttons & no bushings. Beautiful semi-V shaped mahogany neck with ebony rod. In completely original condition with a recent neck reset, fret dressing and top center seam regluing by Brothers Music. Measurements: 1-11/16" nut, 24.9" scale. New Martin hard case included. 9. MARTIN, 00-21, 1968, Attractive Brazilian rosewood back and sides with a Sitka spruce top. The top has a rosewood belly bridge and original small rosewood bridge-plate. The broad 12-fret neck has a slot head and rosewood fingerboard. Near excellent condition with one 4" hairline back crack and a good looking tortoise-colored plastic replacement pickguard. The neck is very slightly pulled up at the joint but the action & saddle height are good. Measurements: 1-7/8" nut, 24.9" scale. Newer hardshell flat top black case included. (Our #30932) $5,500.
10. MARTIN, 00-42, 1902, A gem of a guitar elegantly appointed with 42 style pearl inlays and inlaid Handel tuners, and an ivory bridge. The 12-fret neck is broad enough for fingerstyle and has a traditional slotted headstock. The top has two tone bars. In overall very good condition with a few back, side & top cracks that have been glued and reinforced, along with some cosmetic overfinish. Measurements: 24.9" scale. New hard case included. 11. MARTIN, 0-17, 1934, All-mahogany guitars like this one are special for their full mid range sound. The rosewood fingerboard has original bar frets and small dot fret markers. Very good overall condition with a 3" repaired crack at the lower right side of the back, and new Waverly relic G-98 style tuners with oval nickel buttons. The neck recently reset & frets regulated by Strunk. Measurements: 24.9" scale, 1-3/4" nut. A 1960s soft case is included. (Our #30584) $4,500.
12. MARTIN, 0-17, 1936, This comfortable 14-fret body 0-17 has the all solid mahogany construction established for this model. The semi-V shaped neck has a broad feel, and is neatly outfitted with an ebony nut and heel cap, rosewood fingerboard with tiny ivoroid dot fret markers and T-frets, and open-gear Grover G-98 tuners with oval buttons. The top has a rectangular rosewood bridge. Overall original and excellent condition older neck reset without shim. Measurements: 24.9" scale, 1-3/4" nut. The original chipboard soft case is included. 13. MARTIN, 0-18, 1898, Formerly in the the collection of Mike Seeger, this lovely sounding guitar can be played with either nylon or extra light guage steel strings. The spruce top has its original dark-stained finish (red-brown color more commonly found on Style 26s & 28s of this period) with herringbone marquetry around the soundhole and an ebony pyramid bridge. The Back and sides are Brazilian rosewood (Style 18 guitars had rosewood bodies until 1917). And the rounded V-shaped cedar 12-fret neck has a slotted headstock and ebony fingerboard. The neck-block is stamped C.F.MARTIN & CO./NAZARETH,PA and the back of the head has the very rare stamp: C.F.MARTIN & CO./ 1833 / NEW YORK. It is also signed under the top "1898 FF". 14. MARTIN, 0-18, late 1922, This is a very light and responsive guitar 12-fret guitar with an Adirondack spruce top and mahogany back and sides, and an ebony pyramid bridge. It plays well with standard light gauge strings. The ebony fingerboard has original bar frets. In overall original and very good plus condition. There is a long repaired crack around the center of the lower bass side - very slightly uneven in one area but not unsightly and quite secure. It has had an older good neck reset. Measurements: 24.9" scale, nut width is a hair shy of 1-7/8", string spacing at the bridge is 2-1/2". New hard case included. (Our #28678) $4,250.
15. MARTIN, 0-21, 1947, A very rare post-war 0-21 (there were 48 made in 1947, though strangely we've never seen one before). Very nice Brazilian rosewood back and sides with a herringbone center back-strip, and Sitka spruce top. The mahogany neck has an ebony fingerboard and slotted head. Overall excellent condition with super reproduction Willi Henkes tuners, neck reset & fretw regulation by Strunk, and some capo wear on the part of the peghead. Measurements: 24.9" scale. 16. MARTIN, 0-28K, 1927, Originally setup for Hawaaian style playing, this 12-fret -28k has been expertly converted to Spanish style configuration. The top, back and sides are of attractively figured koa, with herringbone trim. The ebony pyramid bridge is a replacement of the correct style but about 1/8" larger than the original. Overall original & in very good plus condition, Measurements: 24.9" scale. Later hard case included. (Our #22310) $7,500.
17. MARTIN, 1-26, c.1870s, An interesting & very attractive Style 26 variant with Style 28 appointments and Style 27 marquetry, as well as a bound fingerboard & peghead, from the collection of Mike Seeger. The 12-fret body is made with an X-braced spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and a V-shaped cedar neck with a bound fingerboard and bound slotted headstock with engraved brass tuner plates with bone buttons bound. Style-28 zig zag style backstrip and soundhole rosette inlay, and colored wood marquetry around the top. In overall good very condition. It has a nicely replaced ebony pyramid bridge of the correct size, though the pyramids are not quite the right shape. Measurements: lower bout 12-7/8", length of back 18-7/8", scale 24.9", nut width 1-13/16". Hard case included. (Our #30262) $6,500.
18. MARTIN, Claireís Guitar, 2005, A very special Size 5 (Terz), Style 40 guitar, issued to celebrate the birthday of Claire Frances Martin. This is Limited Edition #11 of 100 from the first batch of this model. The back and sides are of select Brazilian rosewood. The Sitka top has natural gloss finish. The 12-fret mahogany neck has a 1-11/16" nut (scale is 21.4"), gold-plated Waverly tuners with grained ivoroid buttons, ebony fingerboard with 18 frets, with custom fingerboard and headstock inlays. 19. MARTIN, CS21-11, 2011, Formerly owned & used by David Bromberg, this is a Martin Custom Shop guitar designed to be super light in all its parts. It also looks beautiful & sounds great. The back and sides are highly figured Brazilian-looking Madagascar rosewood, and the Adirondack top has a natural finish without toner. Style 21 appointments with a Fishman Gold+ Active pickup installed. Used but in perfectly cared for excellent plus condition. Measurements: 25.4" scale, neck width at nut is 1-3/4". 20. MARTIN, D12-28 12-String, 1998, A really fine 12-string 14-fret with very Brazilian looking (dark, rich, with nice contrast) Indian rosewood back & sides. Almost in mint condition and look very much unused except that it has a later replacement Martin black pickguard, and a 4-1/2" repaired hairline crack in the lower treble bout of the top extending from the binding. Measurements: 24-3/4"scale, 1-7/8" nut, feeler gauge measurement under the 6th string @ 14th fret: 2.667mm or .105", 1st string: 1.88mm or .074". Original hard case included. (Our #32053) $1,500.
21. MARTIN, D-18, 1941, A very fine sounding guitar for both for both fingerpicking & flatpicking. Spruce top and mahogany back and sides. The neck has an older good refinish, and the top has some old overspray. The top has a new ebony bridge of correct style but very slightly larger (about 1/16" oversize). Dave Strunk recently reset the neck and refretted the ebony fingerboard. Also, there are to hairline rib cracks on the treble side (one is 2" and one is 2-1/2"), a small area of glued & retouched impact damage on the lower treble side, and a small crack along the outer edge of the pickguard. Original pickguard beautifully inscribed in script "Ozark Glenn". By the way, if you know who Ozark Glenn was, please let us know! Measurements: 25.4" scale, New hard case included. 22. MARTIN, D-18, 1948, Made just after the beginning of 1949, this lightweight & responsive D-18 still has the earlier dark brown color pickguard. Nice dark sitka top with no cracks, mahogany back and sides. Completely original & in overall very good plus condition. There is a 4"hairline crack upwards from the lower back binding, a very small & nicely done semi-circular patch to the upper bass side (about the size of 1/2 a quarter), some capo scars on the back of the neck, and some pickwear around the treble edge of the soundhole. The original frets are good and have been levelled and dressed. The original bridge has not been cut down. Neck reset by Dave Strunk. Measurements: 25.4" scale. Later hard case included. MARTIN, D-28, 1954, standard period D-28 with nice quality Brazilian rosewood back & sides, sitka spruce top, pickguard crack along right edge of guard adjacent to the binding, some minor vinyl strap rash to the center of the back, otherwise original & in very good plus condition, original hard case, easy to play & very fine sounding (Our #30480) $8,500.
24. MARTIN, D-28, 1957, A superb sounding Bluegrass guitar, purchased from the original owner. Spruce top and straight-grained Brazilian rosewood back & sides. Overall original & in very good-plus condition, with the original maple bridge plate. There is a 1"crack in the middle treble rib, but it is otherwise crack-free. The guitar plays well with a low saddle. There is a slight shadow on upper bass bout finish from an old pickguard, and some pickwear belt-buckle wear in the back. 25. MARTIN, D-28, 1970, A late example of a D-28 made with Brazilian rosewood back and sides. It is in very, very clean condition with the original Grover Rotomatic tuners. The Sitka Spruce top has had the original black pickguard replaced with an authentic-style tortoise-color plastic guard. There is a strap button on the heel of the neck. The neck has recently been reset. Measurements: scale 25.4", nut width 1-11/16". Later hard case included. (Our #28812) $5,200.
26. MARTIN, D-28 Elvis Presley, 2008, This guitar is number 148 from a limited edition of 175. It celebrates the legend of Elvis Presley and his famously tooled leather encased Martin. The guitar also celebrates C.F. Martinís 175th anniversary and has the 17th anniversary stamp. The back & sides are East Indian rosewood with a Carpathian spruce top with scalloped braces. 27. MARTIN, D-28GE, 2004, This Limited Edition Martin guitar features and Adirondack top with herringbone trim, and distinctively figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The top braces are scalloped and forward shifted. The V-shaped mahogany neck has an ebony finger board with diamond and squares inlay. It is in near mint condition. 28. MARTIN, D-28KTBS Bob Shane, 2003, This limited edition guitar (#45 of 51) bears a label signed by both Chris Martin and Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio. The ebony fingerboard is also inlaid with the logo of the Kingston Trio and signature of Bob Shane. It is in near mint condition, and appears unplayed. The top is Sitka spruce with a tortoise colored pickguard, and the back and sides are Indian rosewood, all with grained ivoroid bindings. The neck is a rounded low profile. 29. MARTIN, D-45 Longworth, 2004, This D-45 celebrates the long association of Mike Longworth with C.F. Martin. His contributions in recording the history of the company have benefitted everyone in the field, from players to independent luthiers, and they continue to inform the great work of the C.F. Martin company today. The label of this limited edition was signed by Sue Longworth and C.F. Martin IV, and numbered 5 of 91. The top is Adirondack spruce with vintage toner, along with attractive East Indian rosewood back and sides. The guitar has standard 45 pearl appointments with the C.F. Martin torch inlay and C.F. Martin in pearl script in the headstock. Itís a super sounding guitar in near mint condition. Measurements: 25.4" scale, nut width 1-27/32". Cedar Creek brown leather case included. 30. MARTIN, O-21, 1917, This light and responsive 12-fret guitar has an Adirondack spruce top and figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Any old issues have been neatly corrected to bring this guitar up to snuff, making the guitar a great player & suitable for standard light strings. The rectangular ebony bridge is new-but of correct size and shae- with a slight shadow around the bridge from an earlier incorrect replacement. The neck has been reset and the ebony fingerboard has a slight radius with recent T-frets. There is some light French polish over th original finish on the body and the neck the head and neck also show some over-finish with no brand stamp (either obliterated or simply absent). The tuners are period-style Stew-Mac Golden Age machines. There is one repaired crack just along the bass side of the fingerboard, as well as a glued back crack & side crack. 31. MARTIN, OM-18, 1931, This fine early Orchestra Model 18 is built with an Adirondack top and mahogany back and sides. The top and back are in fine condition with rosewood top bindings, the original ebony bridge and bridgeplate, and small OM-pickguard. There are a few old rib repairs. The neck has the original ebony fingerboard and Adirondack top, mahogany back and sides, 1-3/4" nut, 25.4" scale, some old rib repairs, top and back are in fine condition, rosewood bindings and endpiece, original ebony fingerboard clipped-ended Grover tuning gears. 32. MARTIN, OM-28, 1930, This late 1930 OM is a particularly fine sounding & superb player, with the strong and dry sound you would expect from any great period OM-28. Adirondack spruce top with the small OM pickguard. Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The headstock has the Martin brand on the back of the head and no decal at the front. The tuners were originally banjo style tuners, but it now has c.1931 Grover Pat. Applied For G-98s with seamed butterbean buttons (they look original to the guitar but are covering impressions from banjo tuners, a typical period improvement). The guitar is in really nice condition with evidence of having been used and enjoyed, There is some light pickwear to the top. The back, sides, & top have an older light overfinish (likely old Martin factory work), and the neck has a more recent refinish. We found a 4"glued hairline back crack, but it is otherwise crack free. The maple bridge-plate is original. Recent neck reset by Dave Strunk. Measurements: 25.4" scale, 1-3/4" nut. 33. MARTIN, OM-45GE 1933, 2002, A modern guitar inspired by and an accurate replica of the 1933 OM-45 model (123 of this model were made). Killer looks and sound. The sunburst Adirondack spruce top has an ebony bridge with a fossilized ivory long saddle, and forward shifted Adirondack bracing, and the Brazilian rosewood back and sides are finished out with abalone 45 style. The modified V-shape mahogany neck is fitted with a fossilized mammoth ivory nut, and the bound ebony fingerboard has a 45-style inlay patten. Mint condition, appears unused. 47. MARTIN, 00L-17 Black Smoke, NEW, Thereís so much to like about this 00 size14-fret slope-shouldered guitar. The top is Sitka spruce top, with Mahogany back & sides, all done in Black Smoke finish.
